A century ago, as the 1918 flu pandemic orphaned waves of Richmond children, a visionary woman named Martha Patteson Bowie rallied concerned citizens to create a new kind of agency, one that would tend to the needs of displaced children. Over the decades to follow, that organization would evolve into one of the region’s premier resources for children’s development and mental health: ChildSavers.
To commemorate its centennial, ChildSavers is hosting a 100th Anniversary Gala – The Celebration of the Century: A Night to Remember – a festive, celebratory evening of dining and dancing harkening back to the turn-of-the-century masked balls in the era of its founding. It will take place on Saturday, March 29, 2025 at the Thalhimer Pavilion at The Science Museum of Virginia.
According to ChildSavers CEO Robert Bolling, the evening also will include its share of surprises, which he says will contribute to its aura of “fun and intrigue.” (Okay, we’re curious!)
The goal of the evening – through ticket sales and sponsorships and donations – is to raise $250,000, a sum that will be matched dollar for dollar by another masked person – a munificent anonymous donor.
The evening is sure to be a sellout. Click here for tickets.
