Hitting Cancer Below the Belt: Run to Save Buns

Colorectal cancer is on the rise, and it’s being detected across almost all age groups and genders. By 2030, it is projected to become the No. 1 cancer killer among individuals aged 20-30. That is a startling shift for a disease historically linked to people over 45. The good news? Colorectal cancer is one of the most preventable cancers, thanks to early detection and awareness.

That’s why Hitting Cancer Below the Belt is on a mission to break the silence, raise awareness and empower the community to take action. Through early detection services, educational programs and direct support for patients and survivors, HCB2 is making powerful strides in the fight against colorectal cancer.

The Boxer Brief 5k

HCB2’s 13th annual Boxer Brief 5k event is a lively event bringing together survivors, patients, families and friends across the country to run for colorectal cancer awareness and prevention. This year’s race will take place on Saturday, June 7 at City Stadium.

This fun-filled day features:

  • A 5k run/walk
  • Music
  • Local vendors
  • Family-friendly activities
  • Awards and prizes
  • Costumes
  • Diaper drive

Not in Richmond, Va.? No worries. You can still join the mission with the Global Virtual Challenge— run, walk, bike or paddle from anywhere, all weekend long.

For the Little Champions

In the spirit of early education, there are races for the youngest heroes as well.

  • Diaper Dash: Babies under age 1 can race seven yards across the mat track in this adorable event.
  • Toddler Trot: For the first time, children aged 1-2 will race 12 yards across the Richmond Kickers field.
  • Caped Colon Crusader Run: Kids under 6 can wear their favorite cape and race across the field and around the stadium in this fun run.

High School Challenge

High school students can make a big impact—and win money for their schools.

  • The fastest male and female runners each win $200 for a school department of their choice.
  • The largest participating high school team earns $100 for their school.
