SUMMARY:Yom HaShoah Commemoration
DESCRIPTION:Yom HaShoah\, the annual Day of Remembrance to honor the memory of millions of Jewish Holocaust victims\, will be observed in a ceremony at the Virginia Holocaust Museum on Sunday\, April 19\, 2026\, from 2-4pm. Admission is free\, but reservations are requested for planning purposes. \nThe program will feature the lighting of the Holocaust Memorial Candles by survivor families from the Richmond region\, the awarding of the Carole Weinstein Prizes for Tolerance and Justice in the Visual Arts\, and a keynote address by internet sensation Miriam Malnik-Ezagui followed by a Q&A from the audience. \nAs a social media influencer\, Malnik-Ezagui has a significant following on several social media platforms including Facebook (over one million followers)\, Instagram (1.4 million followers) and TikTok (more than two million followers). Her educational and heartfelt videos accrue over three billion annual video views from over 350 million consumers globally. She and her husband are Orthodox Jews and are raising their five daughters in that tradition. Her videos share details that provide an authentic window into many aspects of her life including food\, clothing\, Jewish traditions and religious requirements that she strictly adheres to. A third-generation descendant of Holocaust survivors\, she regularly speaks about her grandmother’s experiences during the Holocaust and how that history continues to shape her own life and identity.
